The current artist on exhibit in the Narthex Gallery is Anja Notanja Sieger who hand cuts highly intricate shapes out of paper.  The finished works are abstract, but inspire the viewer to form animals, plants, and objects from each piece in the same way that people see faces or rabbits in clouds.  The artist never pre-plans her work; she uses her scissors as a tool for improvisational meditation.  Each resulting papercut is a surprise.  Anja received her BFA in printmaking and creative writing from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2009.  Since then she has explored France, worked in a puppet theater, and been a street performer, eventually moving back to Wisconsin.

Her art has most recently shown at Cardinal Stritch, Plaid Tuba, Danceworks, and Sweet Water Organics.  Anja also designed the "free little library" on the corner of 48th Street and Washington Boulevard in West Milwaukee.

This exhibit opened in mid-May and will remain through June.
